Sacramental preparation, for children, teens, or adults, is always in the context of the individual’s journey of faith and the life of faith of the Catholic community. Reception of a sacrament, any sacrament, is an integral part of that journey of faith. Sacraments are not the end of a process, nor a goal to be achieved, but a means to sustain and strengthen a living faith.
There are two types of preparation for a sacrament. When speaking of faith formation, the Church distinguishes between “remote preparation” and “immediate preparation”. Both types of preparation are required for the reception of sacraments.
