Deacon Moises R. Gutierrez was born in Managua, Nicaragua. He did his elementary and high school education in the Christian Brothers Institute of Lasalle in Managua, Nicaragua. He got his bachelor’s degree from the Centroamerican University, a Jesuit university, in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. He came to the US in 1987 to pursue for advanced studies in Electric Power Engineering, graduating in 1993 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy New York. Deacon Moises came to the US with his wife Mercedes and three of their four children: Fanny Natalia, Moises Orlando and Hector Gerardo. Enriqueta, the older daughter, remained in Nicaragua because she was already married with three children.
Deacon Moises was ordained by Bishop Howard J. Hubbard in 2002 in the diocese of Albany, New York, and served at Saint Anthony’s Church in Troy, NY, to the Hispanic community until 2016, when he moved with his wife to Tampa Florida to be closer to two of their grandchildren. Also, Deacon Moises was Chaplain for the night shift at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY., on voluntary basis, for several years. At present, he serves as a deacon at Saint Mark the Evangelist, Tampa, FL., and works fulltime as an engineer consultant in Electric Power Engineering at Pterra, LLC, a consulting company, located in Albany, New York. Deacon Moises and Mercedes have seven grandchildren and five great grand-children. He loves reading, listening to music, watching movies, eating good food and walking.
