I have been writing about our pilgrimage to Italy and Medjugorje these past weeks and I will continue to do so in my next column. But, I would like to share with you an important announcement that I hope will help us move forward in the years to come. As many of you know, we are in a critical financial situation that will be affecting us in May of 2018. This is the date when we will be required to pay interest AND principle on the loan for the new Church. In order to avoid unnecessary interest payments in the future, we are trying to pay down this loan to a more manageable level by that date. That means we need to raise $2 Million by May 2018. I realize this is a lot of money but I have faith that God will provide the necessary means to achieve this goal. It also means that we, as a parish, need to rally together to make this happen. Many of you have already made pledges and are paying on them as we speak. I will ask them if they could possibly accelerate those pledges in some way to help meet our goal. I am also asking those of you who are new or have not made a pledge to our campaign to find it in your heart to do so. You will be hearing more about this during the next few months.
Believe me; I don't like asking for money since many of you have been so generous to St. Mark in years past. However, we are very much in need of your support so we can continue the great work St. Mark has done for our parish and community. It is also the least we can do to give back to God for the great blessing He has given us in His Son. In my experience of Priesthood, I have found that God will never be outdone in generosity. Scripture tells us that we reap what we sow! For those of us who trust God in all things, be prepared for what God has in store for those who love Him. Saint Pope John Paul II always told us to "not be afraid!" I pray that we can all heed these words and give glory to God!
That is enough for now. Continue to pray for the success of this Campaign.
