Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Catechesis of the Good  Shepherd model of faith formation uses the Montessori method of teaching to transmit the faith to the youngest of children starting at age 3.  The children enter their holy space called the Atrium.  This space is a place where children will grow in relationship with Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Like Montessori,  the children have the opportunity of "freedom" of work.  


The Catechesis of the good Shepehrd was born form the joy of the children in their encounter with God, and it always and everywhere lives in being nourished by this joy. 
It has also been observed that children of the same developmental stage and even though belonging to differnt cultural backgrouns respond to certain elements of the Christian message in the same way.  In this way a curriculum gradually took shpae which respons--it seems--to the child's religious needs according to the various age levels. 

"Thus the Catechesis divests itself of any structly scholastic charater, so as to become an experience of life, an education in faith, and a celebration of the enounter of life, an education in faith, and a celebration of the encounter with the Father, in listening to Jesus, the one Teacher and in obedience to the Holy Spirit."(CCC 1074)
