As Thanksgiving draws near, it is time again to reflect upon and renew our commitment to God. Some twenty-seven years ago when I was ordained a Priest, I had to seriously consider what that commitment entailed and how it would be carried out in my ministry. I realized that if I were to be the person God wanted me to be, then I would have to take myself and my desires out of the equation and simply follow His will alone.
Believe me; this was not easy at first. My own fears and insecurities had to be addressed and I had to come to awareness that whatever I owned, whatever gifts and talents I possessed, were not really mine but God’s. He was the ultimate giver; I would need to depend upon Him for everything. As I began living this on a day-to- day basis, marvelous things began to happen. My fears were lessened, my happiness increased, my sense of freedom expanded. My prayer life became more enlightened, my priesthood more relevant.
Embracing Stewardship has opened up new and greater possibilities not only in my spiritual life, but in the physical life that I live. It seems the more of my life that I give away, the more that comes back to me. I have learned that I cannot out give God so why worry about those needs that sometimes can become quite obsessive and bring us to fear. I say all these things because I want that for you too! I’m not simply speaking about money; I’m asking that you give your entire self to God and His Will. During the month of November, we will show you ways in order for that to be realized in your life.
Trust God in this! Take a step in faith and sit back and watch what happens.
I guarantee your life will never be the same!
