Jose has always been involved in church from an early age. He watched his parents as they volunteered and were involved in their neighborhood and church in Venezuela. When St Mark was formed Jose and his wife Noelia were founding members. Jose helped to organize the mass in Spanish at St Mark. He later entered the ay Pastoral Ministry Institute (LPMI) program and became a Deacon

Scott and his wife Carol married in 1978. They have ten children, including seven adopted children and three birth children. In the early 1980s Scott was teaching part-time at USF and volunteering in campus ministry. Somewhere in the midst of that work, he first experienced what he calls “a gentle nudge” toward the diaconate. Scott is profoundly grateful to our pastor and people. He says he has "experienced such love and encouragement and spiritual support from our community that words absolutely fail me".
